Use of Pre-operative carbohydrate loading for diabetic patients

Preoperative carbohydrate loading is widely used within enhanced recovery programmes to attenuate insulin resistance.  There is currently no consensus regarding the use of Preoperative Carbohydrate Loading in diabetic patients.

A consultant colorectal surgeon from Swansea, Mr Dean Harris, led on a short questionnaire about  practice carbohydrate loading for diabetic patients.  We had a very good response to this survey and will post a brief overview in the near future.

If you would like to work with us on a similar project, please contact us to discuss the details.
